When it comes to desserts, I usually like to flex my baking muscles. But sometimes, the easy option is the right option—especially when it’s this cute. For my 'Beanies & Martinis' soirée, I wanted a dessert that hit all the après ski vibes but didn’t require a mixer, oven, or a single ounce of stress. And honestly, this powdered donut mountain was perfect.
One of my best friends is gluten-free, and while I’m still working on mastering a GF cake recipe that doesn’t taste like cardboard, these gluten-free powdered donuts from Katz (thank you, Stop & Shop freezer section) were a game-changer. They’re soft, sweet, and ready for their moment in the spotlight—or, in this case, on the slopes.

How I Made It: The Powdered Donut Mountain
This dessert is as easy as strapping on skis for the bunny hill (but way less embarrassing if you wipe out).
The Donuts: I grabbed two boxes of Katz gluten-free powdered donuts. They’re in the freezer section, so a quick 15 seconds in the microwave on 50% power was all it took to defrost them to pillowy perfection.
Stacking the Mountain: I piled the donuts on a cake stand, stacking them freestyle in the shape of a mountain. No rules here—just channel your inner snow-capped Alps. (Pro tip: Use a toothpick or two to stabilize the stack if it starts to lean. Trust me, nobody wants a donut avalanche.)
The Skiers & Trees: This is where my Cricut came to the rescue. I found skier and pine tree clip art online and used Cricut Design Space to create an offset around the images. This made them easier to cut out and gave them a polished, professional look. I printed everything on thick cardstock and let the Cricut do it's magic. I then adhered toothpicks to the backs of the cutouts using tape (glue is also a great option). The result? Adorable mini skiers and trees that brought the whole scene to life.
Assemble the Scene: Stick your little skiers and trees into the donut mountain, arranging them so it looks like a bustling snow-covered slope. It’s like a tiny winter wonderland—except it’s entirely edible.
To really set the scene, I displayed my donut mountain on a simple cake stand. It elevated the dessert—literally—and made it the focal point of the table.
Not only was this dessert a total hit, but it also completed the event’s après ski vibe to a T (pun very much intended). Plus, it’s proof that you don’t need to bake from scratch to make something memorable. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity, some powdered sugar, and the right clip art.
Cheers to the cutest (and easiest) dessert you’ll ever make—and don’t be surprised if your guests spend more time snapping pictures of it than eating it. Though, let’s be real, it won’t last long.
